Hartley Bros. Landscaping, Inc., a landscape design and construction company, from Westfield, MA recommended the homeowner to use Select Cedarmill made by Hardiplank. The brand name for fiber cement siding manufactured by James Hardie Building Products. A Hartley Bros. Landscaping crew removed the existing siding and trim boards from this home in preparation for the new siding. The house was wrapped in Tyvek prior to the installation of the Hardisoffit Panels that replaced the existing soffit and trim boards. The Cedarmill product is resistant to warping and conducive to paint application. The product is also resistant to harsh weather, insects, and rot; and it holds up against the effects of temperature swings in cold weather climates.
As Hartley Bros. Landscaping, Inc. considers the use of green products for their customers, HardiPlank makes a strong argument for being green by not using endangered wood species for the wood fibers. The cement and sand used is certainly in great abundance. And no toxic materials (i.e., vinyl) are used in the production of HardiPlank. Another aspect as a green building material is the James Hardie warranty for 50 years.
